Who are lessons suitable for?
Lessons can support all ages and abilities, including beginners, returning musicians and developing brass players who want secure foundations, confidence and clear next steps.
What instruments and musicianship areas can Jem teach?
Lessons can cover trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, tenor horn, euphonium, trombone and tuba, alongside aural work, general musicianship and music theory.
What can lessons focus on?
Lesson focus can include posture, breathing, tone production, embouchure setup, articulation, flexibility, range, reading, rhythm, musicianship, practice routines and confidence in performance.
What length are lessons?
Lessons can be 30 minutes, 45 minutes or one hour. For beginners and younger children under 10, 30 minutes is usually a good place to start.
Can lessons take place online?
Yes. Online lessons are taught via Zoom, with a link sent before the arranged lesson time.
What do I need for online lessons?
A device such as a laptop or iPad with a webcam and speaker is usually enough. These are often built in, so setup can stay simple.
Can lessons help with graded exams, auditions or performances?
Yes. Jem can support graded examinations, auditions and performances from beginner level through to advanced playing, with practical work on readiness, confidence and detail.
Can I work on a specific piece of music?
Yes. Lessons are tailored to the individual, so if there is a particular piece or goal you would like to work towards, include that in your enquiry.
How much are lessons?
Please use the contact form to enquire and Jem will provide current lesson rates and availability.
Is there a cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or cannot make an agreed lesson, please give at least 24 hours’ notice. Without 24 hours’ notice, the full lesson fee may still be charged.
How do I arrange a lesson?
